An Alternative to The No Pants Dance

So apparently there’s a new trend sweeping Hollywood that involves oversized shirts and, well, nothing else. That’s right, I’m talking no pants. Stars such as Kendall Jenner, Kourtney Kardashian and Rihanna are conveniently leaving their pants at home… and not because they’re trapped in their worst middle school nightmare. This look is strategic and often achieved with an oversized t-shirt, sweatshirt or sweater paired with over the knee boots and zero pantelones.

For those of us that are brave enough to try a new trend but don’t exactly want to parade around pantless, I’ve got the perfect solution. Here’s a way to achieve the look without doing the no pants dance. Because, let’s be real, pants were invented for a reason.

Here are the essentials:

Chunky Sweater:

I scored this chunky charcoal sweater from American Eagle while Black Friday shopping. Good news, it’s still on sale! This sweater is perfect for this look because of the modest mock neck and side slits that emphasize the black pleated skirt. It’s also super soft and comfy, so it’s perfect for cuddling up on cold winter nights.

Pleated Skirt:

Layer your chunky sweater over a black pleated skirt and sheer or opaque black tights. This pleated skirt has been part of my wardrobe for as long as I can remember. It has endured years of high school band concerts and has come in handy on a multitude of occasions. For this outfit, it adds just the right amount of texture and depth while conforming to the shape of the sweater layered over top.

Studded Booties:

Shoe selection is up to your discretion when completing this look. I opted for some black studded booties with a pointed toe and boxy heel. These edgy boots are from Circus by Sam Edelman. Black over the knee boots are a bold alternative to these studded booties.

Leather Jacket:

Lastly, add a black leather jacket into the mix for practicality purposes. It’s cold out there…which is another reason why we should all be sure to wear pants.

To those brave enough to leave their houses pantless, I applaud you. To those like myself who believe some trends should be tweaked, I hope these tips will point you in the right direction and encourage you to make any upcoming trend your own.
