Halloween Color Scheme: Gorgeous or Ghastly?

With Halloween approaching, I’ve been thinking a lot about costumes and candy. But also colors. I’ll be real with you guys- the black and orange Halloween color scheme just makes me wanna cringe and pray reaaaally hard for November 1st. But I got to thinking, maybe this color combo isn’t totally ghastly. Maybe it can even make an appearance in other months of the year. So I set out to prove that even seemingly horrendous color palettes can be pulled of tastefully when paired with the right elements. IMG_6234.jpgThe focal point of this little ensemble is a rusty orange satin dress that I scored from Free People, layered over a black mesh t-shirt. This dress has a beautiful shape, it’s flouncy and features a sassy slit and v-cut in the back. I added a black belt to cinch the waist and further accentuate the attractive shape.

IMG_6257.JPGI’ve been obsessing over these striped slip-on mules from Sol Sana, looking for any and every opportunity to wear them. They’re still fitting for fall given the black block heel and considerable coverage, plus the striped pattern spices up any outfit. Originally $150 shoes, I snagged these from 6pm.com for a third of the price.

To top it all off, I added a classic black leather jacket and black and gold hardware. I’ve been rocking a black hoop nose ring lately which seems to go well with black fringe earrings. Okay, but here’s the deal. This single orange and black outfit isn’t a fluke. I was browsing the racks at TJ Maxx the other day and came across an orange pencil skirt for $7.99. I figured even if I wore it once or twice, it’d be worth the purchase to expand my wardrobe with a bold pop of color. I styled the skirt with a black and white stripped off-the-shoulder bodysuit and some flirty Steve Madden heels. Turns out, orange and black can actually be a pretty hot combo if you do it right.
