How to Style Neon Heels

The one thing we can all agree on? Neon. It’s no secret neon is huge right now. It’s the perfect time to jump on the trend train and sprinkle some bright neon pops of color into your otherwise neutral wardrobe.

I decided to take this trend and fricken SPRINT with it. Did you see my look at Kansas City Fashion Week? If you didn’t, we’re talking major drop hem, latex biker shorts and a splash of color.

For those days when squeaking every time you move is a tad inappropriate and would make everyone around you feel uncomfy, I’ve pulled together some of my favorite practical day-to-day outfits featuring these Steve Madden neon heels as the focal point.

Tasteful, Not Tacky

Neon can be tricky – there are a lot of ways to do it wrong. Bright, fluorescent colors teeter on tasteful, but when done right, speak volumes. Here are a few styling tips when dealing with bright, neon hues:

  • Incorporate denim to dress it down
  • Stick to neutrals and muted hues
  • Play around with shapes rather than colors
  • Tuck, tie, tighten, top off and test your boundaries. The 5 T’s, if you will.

Look #1: I’m With the Band

No, really. Don’t these shoes make me look like someone important? Can’t say I haven’t used a statement piece to get into the VIP section before.

but.. um… do you see these heels??

Even if you don’t land any sweet perks, people will know you’re a woman with purpose who’s not afraid of letting her style be known. Plus, this outfit is super simple – grab your favorite jeans, band tee and neon pumps and call it a day.

Look #2: The Sophisticated Side

This look is office appropriate, yet special occasion worthy. Consider this combo for a night at the symphony, concert, dinner party or date night with your SO.

Look #3: Girls Night Out

I wore this look in Vegas, and it was hands down my favorite outfit from the trip. This sassy, leather corset top is edgy but doesn’t compete with the neon heels. Remember the rules – stick to neutrals (black leather is neutral, right???) and add denim to dress it down. Whether you’re in Vegas or prepping for a fun night in your own city, this outfit is perfect for a night on the town.

Look #4: Flirty ‘N Fun

This last outfit balances badassery with a little bit of femme ruffle. I paired a heather gray graphic tee with this black ruffle trim pencil skirt and topped off the outfit with my neon pumps. I’d recommend layering a white leather jacket over the top!
